Ski season will be here before we know it. We’ll be hooting and hollering through deep snow, enjoying all that winter has to offer. In the meantime, here are some reminders to put on your radar for ski season.

Backcountry Radios

Group Monitoring Channels

  • Lower Bear Creek: 1-0 (Channel A)
  • Upper Bear Creek: 5-10 (Channel B)
  • Wasatch: 4-20 (Channel C)
  • Ophir Channel: 8-10 (Channel D)
  • Rescue Channel, when a rescue is underway: 9-11 (Channel E)
    (Channels are associated with the BCA preset channels)


Radio Rental Program

Through the Peter Inglis Avalanche Education Fund, the Telluride Mountain Club is helping to promote the rental of 6 BCA radios at Jagged Edge Mountain Gear (970.728.9307). Radios can be checked out by visiting their shop, located on the corner of Willow Street and Colorado Ave. In order to rent out a radio, you will be required to provide your name and credit card information. Length of rental is determined on a case by case basis.

Radio Purchase

Jagged Edge Mountain Gear will again provide BCA radios to Telluride Mountain Club members at the reduced rate of 30% off. Thank you Jagged Edge!

Telluride’s Backcountry Radio Program in the News

Our local backcountry radio program is making big waves in the ski industry. Matt Steen recently presented Telluride’s radio program at the Colorado Snow and Avalanche Workshop (CSAW) and the following two articles were written. It’s worth checking them out.
