Telluride Mountain Club’s E-Bike Guide
The Telluride Mountain Club understands that e-bikes can be confusing for riders, especially with the uncertainty about where they’re allowed. To make it easier for you, we’ve gathered information from the USFS, Town of Telluride, Town of Mountain Village, and San Miguel County. Our guide lists where you can go with your e-bike and answers common questions, helping riders feel more confident on the trails. Please note that rules and regulations surrounding e-bikes could change at any time.
What is an e-bike?
An e-bike is an “electric bike” that is equipped with a battery and electric motor. There are three classes of e-bikes:
Class 1 – Pedal assist only (no throttle), max speed of 20mph
Class 2 – Pedal assist and throttle, max speed of 20mph
Class 3 – Pedal assist only (no throttle), max speed of 28mph
Where are e-bikes allowed in the Telluride region?
Class 1 e-bikes are currently allowed on the following local trails:
- All free ride, technical and multi use trails managed by the Telluride Ski Resort
- Excluding Boomerang and Wasatch Connection
- Roads and paved bike paths, including:
- Valley Floor Bike Path (along Telluride Valley Floor)
- Boulevard Trail
- U.S.F.S trails and roads designated for motorized use
- Tomboy Road / Imogene Road (not pictured on map)
- Trout Lake Trestle
- Bridal Veil Road (not pictured on map)
- Limited San Miguel County trails, including:
Class 2 and 3 e-bikes are limited to motorized trails and roadways only.
